Long point port extends hours to accommodate Christmas cargo collection

NASPA Long Point Nevis (December 20, 2019) – In an effort to accommodate the general public, the Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority (NASPA) Long Point Port will be extending their hours for Friday December 20th 8:00a.m to 6:00p.m and Saturday December 21st 8:00a.m to 12:00p.m.

Assistant Controller of Customs in the Nevis Division, Roger Fyfield, explained the purpose of the extension and highlighted the procedures for collecting packages from the port.

“This is the peak of the Christmas season and in so doing, we are facilitating the general public by opening Friday and Saturday. If you are clearing a package on behalf of someone, we are asking the consignee, that is the person whose name is on the package, when they are going to send someone to clear the package, to give that person an authorization form.

“That authorization form could be accessed from our website www.skncustoms.com or you can simply write a note, address it to the Deputy Controller of customs, Mr. Cynric Carey, asking the Deputy Controller to allow that person to clear your package on your behalf,” he said.

To complete the process, the person clearing the package has to present a valid picture identification (ID) of the person whose name is on the package that bears their signature. The documents should be brought to the customs department with the valid picture ID of the person clearing the package.

Chief Operations Officer, NASPA, Shelley Weekes explained that customers should first contact their shipping agent to collect their waybill then visit the port and present two government ID’s. The second step is to visit the cashier with the waybill where the customer will be presented with a voucher. Head to the warehouse with the waybill and voucher and an attendant will assist you in locating your package. Customs will then search your package after verifying the documents.

She also used the opportunity to reminded parents that children will not be allowed access to the port for their own security but welcomed persons to clear their packages on Friday December 20th 8:00a.m to 6:00p.m or Saturday December 21st 8:00a.m to 12:00p.m.
